Adoption UK provides vital support to adoptive families.
We have supported the charity since 2015 and have raised an incredible £17,000 thanks to the support of schools and parents. This year we are continuing our support for this worthy charity and hope to raise £10,000 – we need your help to do this!
Around 5,000 children are adopted in the UK each year and three quarters of them will have been removed from their birth families due to abuse or neglect.
Adoption alone doesn’t erase the trauma they have suffered.
Children who have spent time feeling unsafe, uncared for and unloved, can struggle with ongoing issues relating to fear, loss and anger as well as problems with trust and self-worth. They can find relationships and everyday life incredibly difficult and often display extremely challenging behaviour.
In school, adopted children are falling dramatically behind their peers. They are more likely to be excluded, more likely to have social, emotional and mental health difficulties and more likely to leave with no qualifications.
Adoption UK provides teachers with resources and information so they can better understand the reasons for challenging behaviour and learn new strategies to help adopted children, and other children who have experienced trauma, to succeed in school. All funds raised before and during VIAM 2020 will go specifically to supporting this work.
