I just thought I’d like to say a huge thank you for last night. It was a fantastic evening. The girls were full of it all still this morning (although sleep walking through lessons!).

Thank you for giving Dunottar the opportunity to perform on the stage, that is something they are going to remember for the rest of their lives. I can’t believe how brave they are at such a young age.

All our parents were really impressed with the event too.
Well done and thank you for all your hard work.

Children in Year 4 and Year 5 became part of a 5000 strong choir on Tuesday night when they took part in “Voice in a Million” at Wembley Arena.

Voice in a Million organise huge arena-scale concerts, providing school children from across the UK with an experience of a lifetime, performing in front of an audience of thousands to “make a difference” in a musical evening of awe-inspiring family entertainment.

The Voice in a Million Choir officially launched in January 2010 and has since staged sell-out concerts in Arenas across the country. The idea behind the initiate was to raise awareness for the British Association for Adoption and Fostering.

Before the event the children had to learn the songs they would be performing which included “We are Young” by FUN., “Skyfall” by Adele, “Firework” by Katy Perry and “Edge of Glory” by Lady Gaga.

The following are comments from some of the children who took part:

“My favourite parts were singing ‘Firework’ and ‘Skyfall’. I would love to do it again because it was epic.” Guy L (4W)

“I really enjoyed Voice in a Million at Wembley. I enjoyed singing and thought the choice of songs was good. It is something I would definitely do again.” James G (5F)

“Voice in a Million was great fun – we sang and danced the whole time.” Eloise W (4W)

One of our parents who attended the concert commented afterwards “Thank you very much indeed for providing the opportunity for the Gayhurst choir to be part of such an unforgettable evening at Wembley Arena. It was both uplifting and moving and it was hard to keep back the tears when all 5000 children were singing in one voice.”

On Tuesday 12th March, 52 excited members of the Lower Chamber Choir set off for Wembley Arena to take part in a show called Voice in a Million. They joined around 5000 other children from schools all over the country in a huge concert to help raise awareness of adoption and children in poverty.

After an excellent performance of Philip Wilby’s God be in my head in the altogether different setting of the Commemoration Service the previous Saturday, this felt like a very timely reward for the pupils as they danced the day and night away under the arena lights. The main song of the event, I want a Mum, highlighted the aim of the show, whilst more familiar songs such as The Edge of Glory, Count on me, Firework and Sing went down a hit with the pupils. In all, they took part in 17 of the 26 songs performed, with the remaining nine featuring guest choirs, some of whom had been formed as a direct result of the first Voice in a Million show four years ago.

Everyone had the time of their lives singing in a packed arena. Thanks must go to all the parents and staff who came along to support what was a truly memorable event.
